Sunday at 5

September 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the first prisoners of 400, from The Maze Prison (Long Kesh), following the signing of the Good Friday Agreement which was negotiated as part of the Peace Process in the North. More than any other event over the past 10 years, the release of the prisoners has caused so much political stife and pain for the relatives of those who have suffered at the hands of the ‘Troubles’. Ten years on ‘Sunday at 5’ examines the lives of two of those individuals who played leading roles on opposite sides of the conflict.

Ex-leader of the IRA, Séanna Walsh, who was released as part of the early release programme, and an former leader of the UDA, Billy McQuiston, portray a collective portrait of the penal perspective of the peace process and their reflections help us to understand the complexity of the most recent decades of the conflict as seen from prison and on the outside.

‘Sunday at 5’ is a bi-lingual (Irish and English) co-production between Batabat of Barcelona, and Tobar Productions, which is soon to go into production. An English Language version of the documentary has just been completed is receiving great interest from international broadcasters and festivals alike.
