About Tobar
Named after the old black pump at the well of his Aunt Maggie's house, where he now lives, Philip Campbell formed Tobar Productions at the beginning of 2003 as a creative output for the flow of new ideas and media projects.
The company produced a small number of programmes for TG4 in the beginning, but Philip has been working full time for the company since 2005 and is very happy with the achievements to date and the real potential for growth.
Considerable time and effort has been spent on developing robust ideas for TG4 and this work has paid dividends with the production of two series in 2007 and three series commissioned in 2008 in addition to a single documentary. Tobar now employs two people on a full-time basis and contracts up to 20 people during production.
While concentrating mainly on producing television programmes in the Irish Language, Tobar is hoping to produce programmes in the English language for BBC NI and RTÉ.
Tobar aims to become and remain one of the main Irish language production companies for TG4 in the North and to attract, nurture and maintain new talent.
Aspirations
Tobar has a reputation for producing television programmes for TG4 with very high production values, and which are driven by a passion to be told. The company will continue to supply TG4 with such programming, but is keen to produce programmes in the English language. In addition the company will continue in its pursuit of new talent, bringing new people with a hunger and drive into the industry to become part of the Tobar team. At present there are three trainees working full-time with Tobar on current productions as well as developing some productions of their own.
A robust English comedy idea is in development and it is hoped to secure a commission for production in 2009.
